A new documentary titled SOAR is set to launch, continuing the story of the WASZP sailing class and its impact on the world of dinghy foiling. This film serves as a powerful follow-up to the 2019 documentary Taking Flight, which highlighted the initial growth of the WASZP as an accessible and revolutionary hydrofoiling platform that transformed sailing pathways.

SOAR will premiere globally on Thursday, June 5th, at 8:30 PM AEST. The documentary chronicles the paths of remarkable WASZP sailors who have been progressing from local club races to the highest levels of the hydrofoiling sport, including SailGP and the Youth and Women’s America’s Cup.

Marc Ablett, General Manager of WASZP, emphasized that the film is more than just about a foiling boat; it’s about “opportunity, a lifestyle and a generation of sailors who dared to dream.” He added that SOAR illustrates how the WASZP class has become a vital stepping stone for the future of hydrofoil sailing.

The documentary features captivating narratives of athletes who started their foiling careers with WASZP, demonstrating how the class’s dedication to participation, diversity, and retention has successfully bridged the gap between recreational sailing and elite foiling competition. Among the current and former WASZP sailors whose journeys are followed are Margherita Porro, the Women’s America’s Cup winning driver; Jack Ferguson, Australian Youth America’s Cup driver; Hattie Rogers and Matt Beck, Athena Pathway Youth America’s Cup trimmers; Hanno Seiffert, Artemis Youth America’s Cup driver; and Galen Richardson, Canadian SailGP sailor and Youth AC driver.

SOAR vividly portrays the triumphs, challenges, and ambition that characterize the foiling generation, from humble local beginnings to the grandeur of international regattas and professional sailing.
