Fullers360, New Zealand’s largest ferry transport and tourism operator, has launched an electric hydrofoiling ferry service. Their new vessel, the Vessev VS-9 “Kermadec,” is the first certified electric foiling boat in a commercial fleet. This 9-meter boat accommodates 10 passengers for 40-minute tours of Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour, offering great views and access to the Huaraki Gulf.

The ferry’s electric system produces no emissions, and its hydrofoiling technology cuts energy use by lifting the hull above the water. This leads to lighter, cheaper batteries and greater efficiency compared to regular electric boats. The Kermadec also ensures a smoother ride, thanks to sensors that adjust the foils for different water conditions.

The Kermadec cruises at 25 knots and has a 50-nautical-mile range. Vessev, the company behind the VS-9, is focused on sustainable transport and plans to develop a 100-seater electric hydrofoiling commuter ferry, the VS–18. Fullers360 is dedicated to protecting the environment and sees the Kermadec as a move towards greener transport and marine sustainability.
