Wake thieving behind fast motor boats and ships becomes very easy with this new AXIS ART 999 V2. The boat was cruising at 29.5 km/h and rider never felt overwhelmed by the speed. A very nice wave thieving pump foiling experience from Nyon to Coppet behind CGN boat “Lausanne” in Switzerland. This video showcases yet another incredible way to enjoy hydrofoiling water sports.
Pump foiling uses a similar board and foil as wing foiling, only without a wing. The rider uses their body weight to create an up-and-down ‘pumping’ movement by pushing downwards on the board; this force generates the power needed to create movement and upward lift.
Pumpfoil or dock start as it is also known has become very popular and the real pros can almost pump for over an hour. How does this work? You take off and jump on the foil and start pumping so the wing goes up and down which generates power forward and you find some small waves you can surf on them and then pump out to the next wave again.
The board you need a small board anything between 8-14L that is between 80-110 cm. You should have a wing that fits your weight. We recommend the “pump” masts which are extra strong built for these pump wings. Learning the art of pump foiling will not only give you a fun activity to do in wind/wave droughts but it will also give you a better understnading of your foil setup. if you want to really become a master of any other foiling discipline it is the key for longer rides.
